Expert Guidance and study resources for well control drilling calculations

The Roughneck’s Guide to Drilling Calculations is a specially developed series of four self study books that ensure candidates have the necessary calculation skills to successfully complete well control examinations.

Speak to most well control instructors and they will tell you that one of the biggest draws on their time in the four days leading up to exam day at well control school is ensuring that candidates have the necessary calculation skills to get through the underpinning maths.

In many cases this can distract from the well control training.

The same instructors will tell you that candidates who come to well control school with the basic calculation skills in place not only tend to breeze through the final exam but more importantly - they learn some well control.

The Roughneck’s Guide to Drilling Calculations aims to take the mystery and the
pressure out of calculations. Designed primarily for those with little or no calculation skills, but of benefit to personnel at all levels, the series starts out by equipping students with the tools they need to understand calculations and how they work.

This is done with fully worked out, rig based, examples throughout. Once the basics have been mastered the series goes on to explain how the newly learned tools can be specifically applied to volume, pressure and well control situations.

The Roughneck’s Guide to Drilling Calculations uses “lesson to view” throughout thereby ensuring students never have to turn the page to finish a topic. Each book in the Roughneck’s Guide to Drilling Calculations series comes with a final book test, complete with worked examples of the answers, and also has the option of a final closed book test allowing companies to independently confirm understanding before accrediting success.
